Sport Compact Group Drag Racing Series - Press Release 25
CASTROL EDGE JAMBOREE - VER 2.0
After the disappointment of the postponement, of the August 25/26 Castrol EDGE Jamboree due to weather and track conditions, we are finally able to confirm the re-scheduled event will be run on Saturday the 3rd of November. The re-scheduled event got off to a false start last week after securing Oct 13th as the new date. The venue was available but it was confirmed Tuesday that Willowbank was unable to supply the qualified staff to run the event with 300 competitors. It turns out that October 13th was the same date as the Warwick Drag Fest which is Warwick's biggest event. I for one didn't think it would be an issue if the 2 events ran on the same weekend but, a large number of the Willowbank staff, also work at the Warwick track for these big events. So we had a date but without the staff to run it a date had to be sort. Both the Sport Compact Group and the management of Willowbank Raceway sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this has caused on top of the rainout of Aug 25/26.

ENTRIES RE-OPEN FOR J17 - VER 2.0
Due to the fact that we didn't finish qualifying on Aug 25th we have been able to re-open entries in most classes. Being that qualifying was completed in the Street FWD, Street RWD, Street AWD & Sports Bike classes we can't accept entries for these classes. Cars that would normally fit into the above classes will be eligible for the ET class though. So, entries will be accepted for ET, all Motor, Front Mod, Street 289, Super Mod, Extreme, Outlaw Sports Bike, Pro Compact & McKern & Associates Pro Turbo. I know there were plenty of racers that weren't ready for Aug 25/26 so here is your chance.
Nov 3 will see the Show-N-Shine and Club Displays back for display purposes only. Judging for the Show-N-Shine and Club Displays were completed and trophies awarded on Aug 25/26. We are inviting all Show-N-Shine Entrants back, to display their vehicles on Nov 3 at no cost along with the Club Displays too. We've also re-opened the Show-N-Shines entries but no judging will be performed.
Enter online by clicking the Castrol EDGE logo below. Entries have already started to roll in so get cracking. Give us a hand and DON'T leave it to the last minute.

PAC 6.88 AT ACDELCO EAST COAST NATIONALS
AND TAKES OUT COMP ELIMINATOR
The Pac Performance team are riding high after a hugely successful showing at the ACDelco East Nationals. The team was keen to get out onto the track, as they had had no track time since the car had been stripped and repainted. George crossed the line with a 7.2@200mph on it’s first qualifying pass on Friday. On their final qualifying run on Saturday, the MX6 recorded a 6.889@203.68mph pass which smashed their previous best of 6.96 and in the process also reset the national ET record for PRO RWD, for the 5th consecutive time. The 6.889sec pass makes Pac Performance the 3rd quickest Rotary in the world and only 0.129sec behind the quickest.
Qualifying third in Competition, George ran a 7.18@168mph first round to move into the second round against a former National Competition champion. The team headed into the final with their heads held high, no matter what the outcome of the race, the weekend was a success. In front of a capacity crowd of mainstream drag racers and spectators George drove it out the back door with an impressive 6.97@198mph pass to win the Competition eliminator class much to the joy of the Sports Compact community. The PAC team relish in racing against the traditional drag racers in the Group 2, Competition eliminator class and look forward to bringing it to them again in the next round.
So with two 6 second passes and two 200mph passes over the two days of competition, the PAC team have again raised the bar for Sports Compact and Rotary performance. The Pac Team are now well and truly focused on their next event, the re-running of the Castrol EDGE Jamboree at Willowbank Raceway on November 3, 2007.
Checkout the record 6.889sec pass above thanks to Neil @ Madman Productions, it's 7.5meg so it'll take a minute or so to download. If you're looking for video footage of your vehicle from a WSID event, Madman Productions are the people to talk to. The above footage is subject to copyright and may not be hosted on any other website without written permission from Madman Productions.

CASTROL EDGE JAMBOREE - VER 1.0
The week leading up to the Castrol Edge Jamboree was one of the wettest in South East Queensland in some time. Despite being in the middle of a drought there were torrential downpours for a number of days straight. With racers and spectators alike (and promoters!) regularly checking the weather forecast it was always going to be a mission to squeeze 300 competitors into a weekend.
When Saturday dawned the weather appeared fine, and qualifying for the street tyre racers got underway as scheduled. The Show n Shine display had a good variety of cars on display, from old school through to late model, there was plenty of action on the main stage with the Million Dollar Babes and the ever popular Northfield bikini competition, and in general there was a positive atmosphere in the pits.
There were a few notable times in the street tyre session including Rob Barac's EVO Lancer fresh from some APC dyno tuning with a couple of gentle (on the gearbox) runs in the nines with a 9.79 at 148mph best. Marty Kirkby ran a stunning 9.60 at 147mph in his appropriately named "DRAG ME" GTS-T Skyline, on drag radials no less! It was good to see Mick Mcgregor back on track in his stunning Green NIS-016 Datsun 1600, with a backing off 11.05 at only 98mph showing great potential. Theo Woollett was "ON EDGE" with his Skyline GTR recording an easy 9.25 at a big 156mph. Also into the nines was Shane Crichton in his Blacktrack Dyno prepped Cressida with a clean 9.87 at 144mph also on drag radials. Ron Lange was having some traction issues in his "IGOTU" Gemini, the unusual 1GGTE powerplant helping Ron to a tough 11.58 at 131mph.
Unfortunately the rain came just as the slick tyred guys were getting ready and as it looked to set in for the evening, qualifying was postponed.
Sunday dawned as a beautiful (and hot) sunny day. Just the kind of day that Queensland is known for and we were all looking forward to a cracker of a day with qualifying followed closely by eliminations. Unfortunately, in the early morning the stunning little BOS-100 R100 was involved in an incident where it veered sharply from the left lane and collected the right wall heavily damaging the car. While the track crew cleaned up the mess the Queensland sun was beaming down and baking the surface of the track. Unfortunately, with the torrential rain the water was being drawn out from everywhere and it became apparent that little pockets were forming under and on the race surface. After some deliberation and several attempts at rectifying the situation, the racer's safety was given the priority it deserves and the meeting was postponed until further notice. An unfortunate situation but sometimes with drag racing you are at the mercy of the weather, as most experienced racers appreciate.

Hopefully the newly rescheduled date of November 3, 2007 will allow a number of racers to finalise testing of their new cars and we should be treated to some great match ups (and hopefully some better weather!) at the rescheduled meeting, already dubbed "Jamboree Ver 2.0"! We'll see you there!
